Meet the makers

Sage leads the guitar circle and beginner ensemble, and has taught community music classes for over a decade. They are a firm believer that anyone can make music in a room full of supportive people, no prior training required. Expect real songs from week one and a lot of encouragement.

Maya is a painter and illustrator who runs Maker House’s open painting studio for all ages and levels. She sets up loose, low-pressure prompts and then moves table to table with tailored feedback. Materials are provided — you just bring whatever you feel like making that day.
Workshops

Guitar Circle is a small, supportive group class for near-beginners who want to play real songs, not just scales. You will learn chords, strumming, and enough theory to keep going on your own, all in a relaxed circle format. Playing alongside others makes the nerves melt and the progress stick. Bring an acoustic guitar if you own one; a few loaners are available on request.

Beginner Ensemble brings teen musicians together to learn how to play as a group — listening, keeping time, and building parts into a whole. It is designed for students with a little experience on any instrument who are ready to make music with others. Over the term the group works toward a casual, low-stakes performance for friends and family. Bring your instrument; music stands and charts are provided.

Painting Studio is an open, all-levels workshop where you paint at your own pace with guidance whenever you want it. Each session offers a loose prompt and a short demo, then plenty of time to explore acrylics and watercolour on your own canvas. Beginners and returning painters share the same relaxed, encouraging table. All materials are included — just wear clothes you do not mind getting a little messy.
